Looking at the photo there is some glue remaining on the plate so probably no screws were used, I can only suggest they are glued back unless you want to remove the rail and do it properly. This has the risk of damage to the A piller wood and can be a pain undoing the rail nuts and refitting ensuring the spacers are in place.
As someone said before, the holes are for screws. If they fell off, most probably the wood has rotten away, so unless you want to dismatale the dash, I suggest you use some form of sealer such as acrilic (or silicone) which will definaely hold the cap in place but which can be easily removed.

Or tec7. A fexible MS polymer. Apply at two spots either end. Takes some time to cure, part have to be held in place while curing.

I think I would use something like ShoeGoo which has a lot of body and will accommodate the possibly uneven surface you are glueing to.
Thank you. I will go with this and see what happens.

You might need a high temperature contact adhesive such as trim adhesive due to the heat through the screen, this will do till the next time you have cause to remove the rail for other work when the screws can be put in.

Thank you. I'll just stick it back then! Any recommendations for glue or is Superglue the one?!

Dashboard end caps

The chrome cap at the end of my dashboard has fallen off. It looks as if it was perhaps not well stuck/built in the first place!

Does anyone have any top tips about how to put it back? Is it just glue? The two holes suggest some other way (which obviously hadn't been used!).
