Another option for overdrive spares and rebuilds, etc. is Overdrive Spares at Rugby. Dave Twigger is most helpful.

By the way, if you do need to replace a solenoid, be very wary of the "Lucas" jobbies sold on ebay at around £30. They'll work for a while for sure, but not for long! They'll then appear to operate on a static test, but under load it's a different story.

OD Spares, and no doubt Overdrive Repairs, sell the correct item for around £60.

Sounds like it must be engaging if it is disengaging. It might be worth checking the solenoid is operating correctly and the wiring is in good order. If you need more info on overdrives the best people to talk to are Overdrive Repair Services who rebuild and sell parts.

in the light of your info i think i have a problem
when engaging overdrive nothing happens,however, when i disengage there is a slight thump and the revs go up??
any ideas?

I don't think there is a minimum speed as such, as long as the gearbox is in forth gear it will engage.
