The boot lid now closes and stays closed as it should. It just needed some lubrication and working the latches a few times. And having taken it apart I now know how it works. Thanks for you help gentlemen.

Okay. I will give that a try.

The posts Rolley.

Just loosen them up so you cannot move them by hand but they will move with the heavy boot being pressed firmly against them. Move the posts up a little before you do it so when the boot is closed it pushes the post down as they engage.

Then firmly holding the boot down (you might require an extra pair of hands to hold the boot lid down as you press the button) depress the boot release and allow the boot to rise hopefully not disturbing the position of the posts as it does so.

Once the boot is open tighten the posts up and try the boot for fitting and for the catches to lock on to the posts.

Its a bit fiddly but the only way really to set the position of the posts in relation to the catches.

Thanks. To clarify, by "catches" are you referring to the posts inside the lip at the bottom or the parts that swivel on the boot lid itself?

We literally installed mine. Took great care to get the boot lid to body fit perfect & it's all worked perfectly since then.

You would never get them back out again so ask the wife to get in the boot for you.lol

I think this is possibly just down to adjustment. I tightened the catches so then could just be moved with force. I then closed the boot firmly so the catches self adjusted to the correct place an then maintaining pressure on the boot lid pushed the button to open the boot leaving the catches in the correct position. With the boot back open I tightened the catches correctly and my boot works fine.

Thanks Glyn. I will surely do all that but I am concerned that I will adjust something I shouldn't and find that it will close and not open again. Maybe I need a volunteer to be in the boot when I close it. ;)

Make sure that clasp mechanisms & linkages in the boot lid are lubricated & operating properly.

Ensure lock pins are in good condition & tight.

Boot won't stay closed

by RollyTG » Sun Feb 14, 2021 9:40 pm

Some of you may recall that a while back I had a problem with not being able to get my boot open. With your collective assistance that problem was solved. Now, for some unknown reason it shuts but won't stay closed. No, I am not making this up. It has worked just fine for months now and I use it quite a bit because I use it to store stuff. Can anybody offer any clue as to what is going on? It shuts with the usual click, but then just spontaneously pops open????
