Thanks Orlando. Trust you are well too. Looks original to me.

So I guess the next question is how much difference does it make in reality to angle & centres of engine mounts. Is it worth fussing over.

Hi chaps. Hope you are all well.

I'm about 95% certain my brackets had never been removed when the below photo was taken. It shows the upper hole towards the front of the car, per the parts manual.

Hope this is helpful.

Same orientation as Glyn and myself Nigel but all three of us have removed the brackets in the past and we are not sure we have replaced them on the correct sides. Such an easy thing to do when they are sided but not marked and the difference between the two sides is minimal.
Where is David with his unmolested car at a time like this?.lol.

Hi chaps, further to Rob's call last night I have posted here my car with the mount hole towards the rear. It looks like i have removed them sometime in the distant past for painting, i just hope they went back in the correct orientation so take this with a pinch of salt.

We steal images shamelessly here to help members ~ LOL!

Good luck with your car!

Glad my LH and RH side engine photographs are finding their way around the internet and assisting others in reassembly work. By the way, my recently overhauled engine is back in the car and the shop is doing the final 100 mile road test before I can finally get it back and drive it myself. It's been a long process. Keeping my fingers crossed there are no glitches.

Yes ~ all of my cars are CKD & maybe SA assembly got it wrong. As you say P/N's are different for a reason and Parts Manual shows them facing forwards. The Mk2 exhaust set up is different.

I got new brackets from Robey. Mine were cracked. That's why I showed all that I did above. Both you & I might have it wrong on our cars. Trouble is that rear gearbox mounting has slotted holes so that's no reference.

It is a difficult one Glyn because both of our engines have been out of the car for a rebuild and these brackets would be removed for a respray. The brackets would not be removed from the chassis legs though if you were just removing the engine for repair so we need someone like David with his unmolested car to see what the orientation is like where these brackets have never been removed. Can you help out David?

I will get back to Terry and get him to mount the brackets both ways as he has an empty engine bay and to measure from the bracket to the stabiliser mount on the bulkhead to see what a difference it makes. Terry reckons that the wrong way (he seems to remember from his Mk2 days) causes interference between the exhaust and the chassis leg.

As with yours, mine is holes to the rear and I have no interference and the rear engine stabiliser all lines up perfectly so the difference must be minimal. If there is no difference why then were there two parts with different part numbers?

Another thing that has just occurred to me Glyn, are all three of your cars CKD? Could be that when the parts were sent over to SA they assembled them the wrong way not knowing which was the right way according to Browns lane. I think I will ask the same question on the other Jaguar forum to see if there is an answer coming from any Mk2 owners with unmolested cars.

The top offset hole should be orientated toward the rear of the car if my car is correct. Yellow arrows show to rear. (all 3 of my cars were) Trust I'm right ??? We followed my donors & old pics of my strip. With this orientation my front & rear engine stabalisers align perfectly. Excuse buffing compound all over the place.

Parts Manual shows to front. So who knows? If in doubt maybe the way to go.

Another engine with brackets attached ~ You tell me? (possibly to the front.)

I wonder how much difference it makes in reality? I would do a test fit both ways & measure from centre of engine mount bolt to a known reference point on both sides. I would suggest that to Terry & be interested in his findings.

Front Engine support brackets

by cass3958 » Wed Oct 07, 2020 6:48 pm

I have been asked by a friend about the orientation of the front engine support brackets.

They are sided and the part numbers are C11528 for the left side and C11529 for the right side. Problem is they are slightly offset but not marked with either the part number or an R or L to signify which side they should go. Terry is rebuilding his S Type and would like to know which bracket gos on which side.

Apparently there are two holes in the front face of the brackets. The lower hole is central but the upper hole is offset. The question is, should this top hole be closer to the front or the back of the car?

I have photos of the bracket in the engine bay when I first stripped my car down but they are not specifically of the bracket so not very clear. It looks like the top hole is to the front of the car but when I checked my car earlier today the brackets on my car now have the top hole to the rear of the car. They were removed during my strip down for painting and I am not sure if mine have been put back on correctly.

The offset is subtle but there is obviously a reason for it otherwise there would not be two part numbers and the brackets would be the same. Could this be why I had an engine mount failure last year because there is now undue stress being put on the rubber mount due to the misorientation of my brackets?
