It is somewhat crowded around the column on my car because of the auto transmission shifter.
Clearly the cancelling "finger" is a bit bent for some reason - it was worse. ????

As long as your column is drilled & tapped/threaded to secure the metal cancelling ring/clamp/bracket bolts X 2 that engages the plastic toothed ring you will be able to fit the newer self cancelling mechanism.

I have not done so as I already have the later version but I would think it possible as long as all the components as changed over. I doubt if the fixing points were changed just the mechanism for the self cancelling part. I think it has also been mentioned that there appears to be two earths in the new wiring loom where as the old one only has one but that should not be a problem.

Mine is like RollyTG's in photo (old turn switch.jpg (129.49 KiB)) although thankfully not broken. In the event it breaks or wears out is is possible to substitute the later type with the toothed white plastic ring, assuming these are now more available.

Here is my very late 65 during build. It was No 4 off of the SA production line & is actually 1966 Model Year car. Sorry these pics were not taken for this purpose & fall apart when blown up. Just to show the cancelling plastic ring in place. Remember where you have an Auto shifter our Manual OD cars have the Overdrive switch that I show here. (cass' car is an Auto) This is pre fitting the cancelling ring shown fitted in the E Type pic above.

I found a YouTube video of a chap making one of those plastic spring pieces with a 3-D printer; but taking the whole unit apart and reassembling it looked like a pain. Here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vXBvRcp4-vM

Thanks for the great photos. The defective one I took off is exactly the same as your first three pics, except that it only has one plastic arm left. My car is a 65. Maybe I should be looking in the Mark 2 section? Anyway, the expert at Barratts says that he will send me the correct one, but I am a tad skeptical.

I'm pretty sure you are right Rob. Please don't go to the trouble of removing the cowling.

I don't have a picture of mine but I am pretty sure without taking the cowling off that mine is the same as in your photo Glyn.

I think the issue is mainly that my car is an automatic and it can only use a half ring turn signal mechanism because the transmission shifter is on the opposing side. Barratts have hopefully identified the part that I need. When I get a part that fits - and works - I can worry about the wiring some more.
