For Sale ~ Shelley Jack Labels
When
P1B75802BW was being given a 100 point restoration (See Newsletter
Vol. 1, No. 3), the then owner found that the Shelley jack label was
‘very tatty’ and there were no NOS or reproductions available. He
contacted the Register and we were able to provide dimensions,
drawings and colour photos of the original (and only slightly worn)
label on the Shelley jack in P1B79909DN.
He had a small
batch of exact replica labels produced. Each label is the original
7/8 in. wide and 1 3/16 in. high. The design, colours and type
styles are correct. Placing one beside the original label clearly
shows the authenticity.
After the restoration
was completed he kindly donated a few of these labels to the
Register. We thank him, and will supply them to members for US$5.00
each, including postage worldwide.

1966 Jaguar 3.8S Automatic
(P1B77968BW) - (Posted 10/19/2015)
Hello,
I
have been collecting parts to build up a 1966 Jaguar 3.8S Automatic
(P1B77968BW) for a few years. Now, I am no longer able to continue
with the project and am interested in getting it and the parts to a
good home.
The car doesn’t look
like much, but I was driving it until the right front spindle
failed. I installed a new spindle, and was in the process of doing
some other work on the car when I bought a house and moved. My plan
was to do the sheet metal restoration, install a new interior and
build up a 4.2L triple carb engine with 5 speed transmission.
I would like to sell the
car and parts as a package, as I don’t have the heart to part the
car out and sell off all the bits separately.
Included:
-
Most every usable part
from a 1965 RHD 3.8S manual OD with manual steering that I parted
out, including title. This includes the OD transmission, which was
freshened, drive shaft, differential and all the components
necessary to convert to the manual 4 synchro OD gearbox.
-
-
Other good parts from
the 1965 3.8S are: Bonnet, boot lid, All four doors, front
fenders, front and rear valences, vinyl front and rear seats
(black). Front and rear glass. What appears to be a good condition
3.8L engine, carbs, manifolds, etc. the oil is clean and the
engine turns over. Gauges, a pair of correct recessed foglamps.
Steel wheel front and rear hubs.
-
-
New parts included:
Lotsa. The high points are: Rocker panels, rear fender lower
repair panels
-
A stock Falcon brand
stainless steel exhaust (there are two of one side rear resonator,
so one will have to have the inlet pipe modified to fit
correctly). Steering rack conversion kit with rebuilt XJ6 rack and
conversion alternator. Lockheed brake servo. Brake and Clutch
master cylinder.
-
-
In addition there is a
Toyota Supra 5 speed with Dellow bell housing and shift linkage
conversion. The 3.8S flywheel has been re-drilled for the Toyota
clutch, which is included.
-
-
There is also a Mk X
triple HD8 carburetor set and XJ6 4.2L engine with spare
crankshaft
-
Just for fun there is
a pair of UK sourced stainless steel headers. They are probably
for an E-Type, but I figured I could work with them.
-
-
Four good wire wheels
are included, along with others suitable for rolling.
-
There are spare front
and rear bumpers which were re-chromed (although these are now in
fairly rough condition). Also there are other re-chromed parts
from the UK 3.8S including hub caps, headlight rings etc.
As
you can see from the photos the car is pretty beat. The drivers door
was hit by a trash truck when the car was parked at the curb. There
is a dent in the bonnet and the windshield is broken where I dropped
a computer monitor on the car during the move. There is rust in the
rear fenders and a bit in the front fenders. The car lived most of
its life in Colorado and was restored badly at one point. The
headliner is falling down and the interior has been re-done in Ford
blue vinyl. The car does roll easily, although the suspension and
brakes would need to be gone through.
If you have managed to
read this far along, there is also a mostly complete good condition
tool box and also the remnants of one that could be restored. You
know how much these are worth.
I would like to get
$5,000 for the package, but would entertain offers if that is
unrealistic.

Stuart Brown
(P1B7790BW) produced a wonderful Jaguar Calendar, in 2005, that
featured our (actually his!) beloved ‘S’-type as the centre fold car
for June. The calendar was illustrated in Newsletter Vol. 5, No. 11.
Now Stuart has
donated a few remaining (unsold) calendars to support the Register
and they make a GREAT ‘S’-type garage wall piece. There just two (2)
available for a US$10.00 donation to support the International
Jaguar ‘S’-type Register.
They are
first-come-first served to Register members. If you would like to
have one, reply to your Editors at

‘S’-type “Barn Find” for sale
(Posted Sep. 8, 2014)
1B55927BW
is a genuine “barn find” having spent the last 35 years sitting
unused on a property near Sutton just north of Canberra, Australia.
Canberra weather is said to be the kindest of all regions in
Australia for the preservation of motor vehicles; and this ‘S’-type
is a remarkable find.
1B55927BW
was purchased from Bryson’s in Sydney by Michael Paul Charles
Williams and first registered February 11, 1966. In late 1967, it
was sold to the owner of an auto service centre in Fyshwick. The car
was driven and well cared for until the second owner died in 1978,
Chassis No 1B55927BW then became the property of his daughter, was
registered in 1979, but just sat for the next 35 years,
The car is remarkably complete and
relatively rust free. The chrome is still in good condition and the
body free of dents and scratches although the paint work clearly
shows the effects of the long period of storage in the open.
The
interior is complete, but also needs a full restoration. The tool
container and most of the tools are still with the car. Documents
include the wallet containing the service booklet, operating,
maintenance and service handbook, maintenance chart, original
registration papers and a full set of original keys.
1B55927BW
was recently acquired by a Jaguar enthusiast who is currently
undertaking a nut and bolt restoration of a XK140 FHC, who writes,
“On reflection, the restoration of the car is a little more
challenging than I initially anticipated”, and wants to find the car
a good home. Also available with the car is a manual gearbox
with Laycock de Normanville overdrive serial number GB 42274 JS.

Jaguar ‘S’-type For Sale in Charlotte, NC (Posted Aug. 25, 2014)
This
is a 1964 (registered in NC as a 1965 – chassis number 1B52793)
Jaguar 3.8 ‘S’ automatic RHD in opalescent silver grey with oxblood
leather interior. We bought the car from England in 2009 and shipped
her over from Southampton to Charleston. She came with just over
6,000 miles on the clock and I have put another 4,000 miles on her
myself without any problems.
This
is what we have been told about her history: She was bought in
December 1964 from Shaw & Kilburn in St. Johns Wood, London. The car
was purchased by a British Naval Commander and driven for several
years before being put into storage. It was then discovered 20 years
later and slowly restored by, what I would call, a passionate
amateur. The car was used as a chauffeur car and wedding car in
England before I purchased it and shipped her over to the states.
The car comes with a ton of records and receipts which show the
amount of money, time and effort that was put into her in England,
including having the engine completely rebuilt by VSE in England.
When the car arrived in the states, the transmission was bad and
beyond sensible repair. I had a local professional Jaguar
restoration company perform a transmission conversion using a 700R
transmission. This conversion makes the Jaguar ‘S’-type an excellent
driving car and is a very strong 4-speed transmission; this car will
drive on the freeway at 70mph doing 2,000 rpm all day long.
Complete
work done under my ownership:
700R transmission conversion
Petronix high output ignition system installed
14” electric fan (this was installed with a temperature switch but I
don’t trust those so I put it onto a manual switch inside the car)
Carburetor and AED completely overhauled
Rebuilt manual steering box
Alternator
Radiator overhauled and pressure tested
Both fuel tanks cleaned, pressure tested and new sending units
installed (though one of the sending units recently stopped working)
Windshield wiper motor
All four wheels have been professionally tuned and balanced by
Hendrix Wire Wheels, on Jaguar hubs. New inner tubes and Vredestine
tires, shipped over from Holland. These are the original knock-off
wire wheels!
Lots of other smaller items performed but not worth listing. Stuff
like battery cable, electrics, exhaust mounts, radiator mounts etc.
etc.
Here’s
what I know is wrong:
A few bubbles on the paint and a scratch on the rear.
Would benefit from new door seals
The horn does not work from the steering wheel and instead works
from a push button on the dash behind the wheel (probably just the
wiring inside the column)
The steering column adjustment could do with breaking down as it
doesn’t tighten as much as I’d like
As mentioned before, the left tank sending unit recently stopped
working
Oil leaks? Very small on the engine and on the differential. About ¼
cup of oil will drip over a month or two. Anyone who knows Jags
would know this is very, very small
Cigar lighter doesn’t work, probably just the cigar lighter itself
as it is original.
Clock doesn’t work but most of them don’t
That’s all I can think of; a few small things.
 The
car has twin stainless steel exhausts from front to rear and starts
first time, every time and the AED performs flawlessly. The engine
is strong, quiet and smooth with no rattles or noise and is in
excellent performing condition. The car runs true and straight with
no wobbles or vibrations and the interior is excellent. All the
electrics work, it has the original radio still in it (that’s the
wires you see in the photos) and though it doesn’t work, I haven’t
bothered to replace it as I like having the original one in place.
All the switches work and lights work etc. etc. etc. it passed its
MOT in England before it was shipped and when I had the engine
scoped, each cylinder was perfect and balanced.
 The
car loves to drive and needs to be driven. I’m selling her because I
also have a Spitfire and two cars are a lot to keep up with and they
need to be driven.
This car is beautiful and only has 10,293 miles from new, according
to the paperwork and MOT history. She draws a crowd wherever I go
and comes complete with the Jaguar Heritage certificate. The car is
located in Charlotte, NC, and any inspection is welcome.
Asking
price = $17,500. Not sure if I am willing to include the badges in
the price as they are quite rare and collectible.

Jeff from Ridgecrest, CA is selling an 'S'-Type
(Posted August 19, 2013)
I found this ‘S’-type in a local tow
yard. I cannot do anything with it, so I hope a Register member, or
a friend, can save it either to restore or use as parts in their
restoration. I did start the motor and it sounded very smooth. Most
of the removed parts are in the trunk. If someone could save this
car that would be super. I need about $750 out of it.

This car has gone through an
extensive four-year restoration/modernization– but the owner must,
for personal reasons, VERY regrettably move it on before the process
is totally completed. If you are looking for a very-fine
freshly-restored highly-drivable classic for less than one-half of
what has been what it would cost to replicate, read the short
description below and see the photos.
Mechanical:
Extensive
mechanical work has been carried out by: rebuilt 8 to 1 compression
3.8-litre engine, John's Cars gearbox conversion to a GM 700R4
automatic, steering upgraded to rack and pinion, new stainless steel
exhaust, new radiator, rebuilt upgraded brakes, restored gas tanks
with new fuel pumps, new battery, new Michelin X Red line tires on
rebuilt green steel wheels. Many other mechanical details also
repaired/renewed.
Interior:
Seats re-covered in Tan leather, all wood refinished , new
headliner, new dark green carpet, with tan piping, on the floors and
in the trunk, new door panels on all 4 doors , new heating system ,
sound proofing and insulation.
Body:
Body
shell was completely stripped, repaired/restored and painted British
Racing Green (before mechanical rebuild started). Bumpers and chrome
trim replated, many new or refurbished parts including, fog/driving
lights, new windshield and heated rear window, complete new wiring.
The new owner could have a nicely sorted out car for LESS Than 1/2
what it would cost to have it done now.

Ivan from Canada is selling his
'S'-Type (posted June 11, 2013).
General description - Jaguar 3.8S
1965
The
S-Type was built from 1963 to 1968 and less than 25,000 units were
built.
It has the front looks of the MK2 but is more luxurious and
incorporates the rear independent suspension from the E type, has
more rear passenger room and a much larger boot for luggage.
This particular example carries VIN # P1B77809BW and was imported
from the USA five years ago, it has only 65,000 miles. It is in good
to very good condition and leaves by road. The car passed technical
and safety inspection when I imported it to be able to register it
in Canada. It is driven occasionally during summer and stored in my
heated garage in winter. I have relocated to France for work and
must sell some of my toys…
Body
Opalescent
blue paint by previous owner is really nice but not concours. There
is no rust on the floors under the carpets or seats, on the fenders,
rocker panels, doors, boot compartment, engine bay, subframe that I
have inspected. Chromes were entirely redone and are very nice all
over the car. All glass is excellent, all windows operate properly,
all locks work, doors latch properly and all body panels are
correctly aligned. I have done absolutely no bodywork to this car
since I bought it.
Engine-transmission
This
car is fitted with the larger 3.8 L engine, has normal oil
consumption and pressure of 40-50 lb. The cooling radiator is newly
rebuilt, there is a new electric pancake fan so engine temperature
stays in normal ranges even in traffic. SU carburators are
completely rebuilt, correctly adjusted, polished, both fuel pumps
are new and the electric choke works well, so the car starts
instantly every time. There is Pertronic electronic ignition and
Lucas high performance coil, new plugs and wires. The automatic
3-speed transmission works well and shifts smoothly.
Brakes-suspension-wheels
Brakes
were redone to pass inspection and an upgraded larger Lockheed brake
servo unit was installed. The six schock suspension rides very
smooth and absorbs irregular road surfaces very well. Wire wheels
are original Jaguar units, without any broken wire, tires are brand
new radials with proper vintage thread design.
Interior-instrumentation
Interior
is really nice. All wood is beautiful, leather seats are all new
with contrasting piping and the smell… Instruments work well,
including the ampmeter and yes the clock also works as it has been
modernised. 12 volt system uses the standard negative ground.
Dashboard lighting now uses stronger LED. The steering wheel has a
beautiful wood rim and the roof headliner is recent. Carpets are in
good condition.
The things to know
The
car is not a concours car, it is a drivers car and there are always
things that could be fixed or upgraded. The vacuum operated air vent
trap opens manually but not via vacuum. There is some play in the
steering linkages but it does pass safety inspection, there are
minor oil leaks under the engine and transmission, the radio is the
original with the tape player, and the retractable antenna does not
operate. The only place I have found rust is on what is called the
crow foot, a kind of reinforcement section behind the front grill
near the bottom of the fenders, they cost 25 British pound from SNG
Barrat. Apart from that, the car is as described above.
Final words
The
car is sold as is, it is almost 50 years old, drives well and has no
major flaws. I drive it in the summer to keep things running
smoothly so it is registered and insured and can go by road. Between
purchase price, repairs and upgrades, I have invested in excess of
30,000$. The car comes with some maintenance spares, the Jaguar
parts catalog and detailed maintenance manual.
I am looking for a fair market price, unfortunately much lower than
what I have invested. Just make me a reasonable offer and we can
negotiate.

Long-time Register
member, Clark Westneat, has a very rare ‘S’-type. It is a certified
ex-Metropolitan Police car. There were only 263 ‘S’-types made in
police car form – and only about 10-11 are known to exist today.
Clark has been slowly researching and restoring the car and calls it
a “10 year Project now 3/4 done”. It has a professional-rebuilt 3.4
litre engine (original), DG250 Transmission, 4.09 diff., new sheet
metal all round, all rechromed, new SS exhaust, powder coated &
re-built suspensions, new paint, all new Ambla upholstery (as
originally fitted), new carpet, refinished black timber (as
Original), new tires much more
Clark regrettably,
because of health and personal reasons, must find a new home for
this historically significant ‘S’-type. If you can help, or know
someone who may be interested, contact Clark at:

Just heard from
Geoff Rogers that he has a 3.8 ‘S’ for sale:
Geoff says it is solid, engine turns, complete with a decent black
leather interior from another car. And that the asking price of
$1,600 is a good deal less than the value of the parts but he won't
part this one out. He also has lots of good used ‘S’-type parts,
though, from other, rustier, cars and other sources. He'd accept a
trade of something else interesting, particularly pre-1968 Jaguar
parts.
The car is in Shutesbury, Massachusetts.
